When I was 17 years old, my house was often empty. I was raised, in my teens, by a single mom who worked two jobs and went to college full time. One evening by myself, I lay on the carpet in my room at 17 years old with snot bubbles and a tear soaked floor. I had spent the last hour singing to Jesus and then this wave of comfort impacted my soul. The joy overtook my emotions and I began to laugh in joy for what seemed the longest time by myself and Jesus. This moment in my personal time of needed comfort was the result of singing from my heart to the Lord.

When my kids were six, four and two years old, they had a ton of energy, especially if you told them it was time for bed. My wife was really amazing at holding them when they were babies and she would sing over them. Then, when they were toddlers, it seemed more my opportunity to sing to them. Anybody remember Little House on the Prairie, when the dad would play the violin and the kids would sit on the floor and listen? Yeah….that wasn’t us. It looked like a 80s WWF wrestling match with the kids literally doing sprints in circles around the room and jumping from their beds to bed. I spent several years with my guitar just singing over them how much God loves them and they never seemed in the natural to care as much I did.

Fast forward and my teens now are in college and high school. I can hear them in the house singing in their personal quiet time with Jesus. My kids know the Holy Spirit will never leave them. They know they were sealed with the fullness of the Holy Spirit the moment they believed in Jesus. They value singing to Jesus and others not because they are talented, not to receive the Holy Spirit, but because they value being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18-19 NKJ  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

Ephesians 5:13 NKJ 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
